Learning Eagle CAD – Video tutorials:

Postby george graves » Mon Jul 05, 2010 7:31 pm

Hope this helps someone. Here some video tutorials I've found to be very helpful when I was learning Eagle CAD. There are two series here,, both really great for learning as you can actually **see** what's going on. Not to mention, some of the commands aren't really intuitive. Like the “move group” command.

First up is a series of videos from Jason @ rpc-electronics.com. Really great, nuts and bolts, series that will get you up and running in no time at all.

Lesson 10: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB5Z_fRpLrE
Lesson 11: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tna0XNjHkrw

And finally is a collection of very detailed tutorials from Warren Young @ http://tangentsoft.net. There are lots of details and some cool tricks like using the commands window just like early versions of Autocad had – might be handy for some. Very good series. Both worth watching.

Just like early versions of AutoCAD...
Heh--every time I use Eagle it feels like I'm back in the late 80's using some DOS-based CAD tool (EasyCAD or Excelerator, in my case) that has totally broken verb-noun GUI metaphors. It's still less awful than the other things I've tried like KiCAD or Diptrace, but I'd love to take a team or 3-4 people for six months and re-engineer it to use normal GUI metaphors.

I really like KiCAD actually. I know It is missing a few features that it should have but I haven't needed to use them yet.

I also like the fact that it doesn't have limitations imposed on it like Eagle free edition.
