Please recommend an etching tank

Postby Hamradio2008 » Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:17 pm

Please recommend an etching tank,,,

I have seen advertisements for 1)MGchemicals, and 2) Kinsten

I really dont plan to have it permanently setup but would like to have the convienence of putting it away after a Saterday morning etch-fest. Also I would want to etch maximim size of 4"x7"

Seems like I am mostly using Amonium Persulfate as an etchent since is is not quite as messy as ferric chloride (scarry messy).

I would like to know if you have any thoughts on these or others????

Thanks Tom

A glass baking dish or photographic development trays work well.

Can't justify the expense of a tank, heater, pump etc when I do few boards and my ice-cream tub works just fine

I use a 3.5 gallon plastic bucket (the one I bought comes with a lid) from the local home improvement warehouse store for $5. I find it works great with Ammonium Persulfate etchant - just snap the lid back on until the next time you're ready to go. For a heater, I use a warming plate I bought on surplus from the local university, and use a length of plastic rod to stir periodically while etching.
