Hot Air Soldering Rework Station w/ Three Nozzles PRODUCT ID

Post by sangamon »

Will this rework station create enough heat over a large enough area to remove 16 or 18 pin DIP chips such as 74HC595N or ULN2803AN? They were soldered using your Mini Solder spool - 60/40 lead rosin-core solder 0.031" diameter PRODUCT ID: 145. Thanks.

You can do DIPs pretty effectively with a regular iron and a solder sucker like these:

The hot-air station is more designed for surface mount parts.

Although primarily designed for SMT, they do come in handy for desoldering work on through-hole parts too. Since they can heat many pins at once, they are very useful for easing out multi-pin parts. Keep in mind though that you still have to go back and suck or wick the solder from the holes. Getting 18 through-hole pins to let go all at the same time is not easy, but a combination of hot-air and the usual desoldering aids makes life easier.

I am having a problem with my rework station. It does not seem to generate enough heat. We have only had this for 30 days and it has never worked properly. Help! We can't wait to get this working!

For confirmation, have you measured the temperature of the air coming out of the nozzle?

What's the output temperature setting when you get that actual output?

I know you are required to ask these questions but could we expedite this process with a phone call? I am available at 513-849-0400 - 10AM-7PM EST. Getting an answer one day at a time is not a successful model for me. I appreciate your help on this matter.
