Replacing Adjustable 30W 110V Tip

Post by XdotL »

I had to remove the tip from my iron in a hurry and now I can't get the tip to fit back in. Can you explain why this might be? Are there instructions posted for changing this tip?

I don't have that particular iron to check, but the tips usually just slide right in. If you post a close-up photo of the iron where the tip should fit, we might be able to spot the problem.

Thanks! Here's a picture of the iron, the tip, and the tip holder...

What problem are you having? You could post photos if you think it would help. The nut at the bottom of the metal part would release the cover then the tip should slide out and the tip should be able to slide back in in reverse order.

The tip fits in the holder, but it doesn't go far enough into the iron for me to screw the holder on.

If you slide the tip into the iron first, are you able to screw the holder down over it?

I'm glad you asked-- it actually doesn't fit at all. I thought maybe I had somehow bent the iron shaft, but your question made me think that I my just be trying tips from another iron. It looks like the picture of the XY 258 tips, but it may actually be a little thicker.

It does fit perfectly into my low-end Weller. Just recently moved, so the actual tips may be stilled packed away.
