Post by asantanilla »

Hello!

I am looking to power a light using a solar panel and rechargeable battery. i am looking for the most efficient way to do this! I need to know more about what kind of solar panel to use and as well what are the best batteries in the market that last long and are efficient.

If you have any advice it would be great! even references to articles or other things.

What kind of light and how long does it need to run?
LiPo batteries are some of the most efficient ones out there. And you will need an efficient charger to go with them. This guide discusses some of the design decisions behind an efficient solar charger: https://learn.adafruit.com/usb-dc-and-s ... sign-notes

6 sequins needs about 120mA max. A 500mAh LiPo like this: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1578
will give you 3-4 hours on a full charge.

For solar charging, you would need a solar charger: https://www.adafruit.com/products/390
And a solar panel. If this is a wearable project, something like this flexible solar panel might be good: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1485
You would need about 1 hour of full sunlight to re-charge after each hour of use.

There are solar panels which can charge much faster. This one will charge your battery in 1/5 the time of the flexible panel.
