I'm guessing that the 'tags' are GPS modules, with some sort of radio link back to the base. They specify for outdoor use only. GPS reception indoors is not reliable.

Re: How is this being done !!
It could probably be done with GPS and XBee modules - plus a magnetometer and a bit of math to work out the camera angles.

So just how feasible would this be given the almost reasonable price tag ?

I'm sure it could be done with hobby grade equipment. It depends on how much building it yourself is worth to you.So just how feasible would this be

My guess is a stereo microphone on the tracker and an ultrasonic beacon on the tag.

With a radio or optical link back to the base, you could measure 'time-of'flight' of the ultrasonic pings for distance. The difference in reception time between the stereo mics could give you a direction.

Reading rather quickly through some of the vague and obviously not proof-read "FAQs" that probably aren't questions anybody asked. It's clear that they are pretty careful not to say anything about "The technologies being used" but I'm pretty sure this is GPS pairing.
Having said that, this is moderately cool. I say moderately because the camera has to be stationary.

Somebody maybe saw the word pairing in the FAQ. The only gps pairing I could find was blue tooth GPS pairing. Searching for "sound localization camera" found hits, though.

this works identically the way a "locator" is found , you know one of those things you put onto an object loose the object and then use your phone with a "beep" finder, that narrows your "Search" down. no different then using your electronic car door opener, your key ring door un-locker. only this has added "RSSI"(freq retrieving/send receive value) that control the movement of the ground "pod".
Also to note , no , the "pod" doesn't need to stay stationary(pod being what the camera attaches to /ground.
You can move it around as its working.Hence , you could potencially have this ground pod mounted to the hood of your car, have somethign "flying around" with the locator , ..you get the point;)
Received Signal Strength Indicator = RSSI
Reference into RC /FVP antenna tracking.
Not gps based.
And here you go:) enjoy.
