Gemma Chip & 3W LEDS

Post by Twan »

I have bought Neopixels to use with a Gemma V2, however I think they are not bright enough for what I need.

Can I use https://www.adafruit.com/products/2530 with a Gemma chip? I want to connect 4 LEDs and they should change colour and brightness in a loop.

Thanks!

You can't drive this directly with a Gemma. You need something that can switch a lot of current - like a MOSFET. http://www.adafruit.com/product/355
You will need one for each channel. The circuit would be basically the same as for driving an analog LED strip: https://learn.adafruit.com/rgb-led-strips/usage
Only you will need some current limiting resistors too: https://learn.adafruit.com/all-about-leds
