Is it possible change from 3.5" to 7" and viceversa ?

Hi to all,

I desired to have only one .img file for the microSD with my system (RASPBIAN) and my applications ...
Is it possible that if the system have a 7" display (original of raspberry pi foundation, the new one) work with it
and if I connect a 3.5" (or 2.8") instead of 7" the system work with the smallest (3.5" o 2.8").
Basically I desired a way that the system understand which display is connected and "startx" work with the connected one.
If is not possible automatically swap: which file I have to change ?
I need a different kernel for each display ?

So the kernel that work with 7" touch don't work with 3.5" touch and viceversa.
I need a kernel for 3.5" and a different kernel for 7"...
It's right ?!
