I have assembled the kit and am able to upload the sketch. If I plug the board into the USB connector without the strip connected then only the board's red light is on. When I press the button without the strip plugged into the board, the board's green light blinks for 10 seonds then goes off. The sketch looks like it successfully uploads.
When I plug the strip into the board and plug the board into the USB connector, the board's red light comes on and the board's green light immediately starts flashing and continues to flash. The board's green light flashes more quickly when the sketch is uploaded, but the board's green light continues to flash.
I have not seen any of the belt's LEDs light up.
Any idea what might be wrong? Thanks.

A little more care when following step 3 in the instructions would have helped.
... the cable coming out onto the right side and the red wire up top.
As a newbie, I went on to the next step and carefully attached the wrong end of the connector to the strip, the wire next to the red wire connected to the +5 V as illustrated in the picture. duh.
It all works now!
