128x64 SSD1306 - Adjusting the Brightness?

Postby Stephanie » Thu Jul 12, 2012 6:45 pm

Is it possible to adjust the brightness of the monochrom OLED display?

I've been reading the datasheet for both the display and the driver chip, and while I don't see anything that specifically says brightness, I am wondering if the 'contrast' setting might translate as brightness? The only outright references to brightness I see in the

The reason I ask is that there are times when the display seems really too bright - such as at night, in the dark. It would be ideal if I could drop the brightness by, say, 50% when it's night, then return to full brightness during the day.

I am nervous about just blind experimenting as I've killed a few of these displays already and don't want to kill any more of them.

Thanks!

p.s. in my application I am using the internal DC/DC booster for Vcc, as per the tutorial page.

Ah I missed that, thank you.

So it seems that OLEDs are meant to be run at 100% brightness all the time, that's disappointing but good to know.

Cheers!
