ST7565 Stopped working after fast switching menu

Postby piton86 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 5:01 pm

I have the ST7565 module, i made an

if case , to read imput from a 4x4 keypad

If # is pressed generate a (false)random number and display at screen.

Pus * to come back at previous menu.

I just switched the menu quite fast pressing # and * and all of a sudden the lcd gave me grafic artifacts and crashed.

Example sketch wont work anymore.

Only backlight is working.

Arduino base sketch works.

Maybe the 4050 voltage regulator is fried??

You don't say what your configuration is aside from the ST7565. But it is unlikely that rapid pressing of keys would have damaged anything. Re-check all your connections try again.

Arduino Mega 1280
4030 voltage regulator.

If i try to start the lcd with an Arduino 2009 Atmega328 wont work either.

I tough about the rapid pressing even because the lcd gave me great swift delay caused by the 4050, so i suppose rapid "refreshing" could have damaged the 4050.
Now on some 4050 pins i have 4,5volts, and if i suppose right it should be 3.00 volt right?

Rapid "refreshing" should not hurt the 4050. It should be able to update output pins in just a few nanoseconds.

All the output pins (to the display) should be 3.3v. Post a photo showing all your connections.

Maybe i plugghed the 5v to the system instead of the 3.3 volt, could this have damaged the lcd//4050?

I got those Volts to the lcd ends:

CS) - 3,3V
RST) 3,3V
A0) 3.3V
SCLK) - 2,9V
SID) - 3,19V
A+) 3.46V

If you connected 5v to VCC on the 4050, you would have sent 5v signals to the ST7565. That would likely have damaged the display.

I tought that the 4050 was a multiple voltage resistor and multiplyer itself, i readed the guide more carrerfuly and in fact the 4050 was ment to be connected to 3,3 volt.
The strange thing is that the display worked properly for long time, and randomly it gives random pixels. Odd...

I will buy another LCD , thanks for help.

Many 3.3v devices will appear to work for a while on 5v. But prolonged exposure to the higher voltage eventually causes permanent damage.

i ask here without opening new topic,

The ST7565 RGB version is ment to be wired and can use library for this display?

http://www.ladyada.net/learn/lcd/charlcd.html

Since i cant find any tutorial for wiring the RGB GLCD ST7565 , and if i wire the RGB circuit with the 100 ohm resistor the brightness is really poor.

The display has an internal 100 ohm in series with the red led. If you are driving the backlight directly with 3.3v, you do not need any other resistance.

Actually this display really pissed me off...

Like the one i supposed to have "fried" this randomly shut of without any apparent reason, shutting down with random blinking and random pixel to die for some hours // minutes . Like the one it's not working anymore there is no connection loss, or software problem, since those issues are appeared meanwhile example sketch, and with the arduino 3 meter from me. Really really annoyng... 20€+time lost to draft x 2.

the problem of both lcd's may be the wire pitch that desoldered form pcb , i will solder directly to the pcb and see what will happend.

EDIT:

Solved.... all the problems were the defective pitches

Can you post a photo of what you mean? If there is a quality problem, we want to get to the bottom of it.
