EL Panel Starter Pack Trouble

Postby algorythm » Fri Apr 20, 2012 1:21 pm

I recently recieved my order of a Red EL Panel starter kit. Unfortunately, the EL panel does not appear to be working. My initial thought was perhaps the batteries for the inverter were dead. I replaced them with brand new ones, to no effect.

I noticed there was no audible noise from the inverter, so I thought maybe it was DOA similar to a previous thread on the forum. However, I had a friend test it with a
multimeter, and it appears to have power across the pins.

Despite that, when connecting up the panel to the inverter, nothing happens.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

No noise at all? You should hear something.
However, I had a friend test it with a

What voltage? If the inverter is not working, the voltage won't be boosted to the level required to light the panel.

Did you turn the inverter on before connecting the panel? If you turn it on without a load in can burn out the inverter.

I'm not sure what voltage, and he doesn't recall. I didn't turn it on without the EL panel attached at first. I hooked the panel up, when it didn't work I tried each of the wires, and each set of pins. I then replaced the batteries, and went through the same cycle. The first (and only) time it was powered up without a load was when we measured it with the multimeter. At no point did I hear a noise from the inverter though.

It sounds like an inverter problem then. Contact support@adafruit.com for a replacement and include a link to this thread.
