LPD8806 housing - attachment techniques?

Postby phodeaux » Thu May 03, 2012 11:07 am

First of all, the LPD8806 light strips are fantastic. Having great fun, no problems on color and control.

Mounting them, though, has been a problem. I was looking for a way to glue or attach snaps, hooks, latches to that weather strip housing, but glues seem to fail (or haven't found the right one). I've tried model glue, super glue, elmers, gorilla, etc. Just can't get a good enough attachment to that weather strip housing (it's worn, so the base is flexible and moves a lot).

Any good techniques other than either going through the housing or over it (ie, tied down)?

My goal it to make the strips incremental to the base garment.

Thanks

Among glues, I had the best luck with silicone adhesives (such as clear aquarium sealant), but still not entirely foolproof. A mechanical connection might be the best bet.

As silly as it sounds, I've found that double-sided cloth reinforced tape works well for them. Hardware stores generally carry it, but if you ask for it like that you'll usually get a blank stare. Usually it's labeled as "carpet tape".

Thank you for the suggestions - ill give them a test.

Mechanical is hard to go through without hitting the ribbon before coming out, and I had the toughest time putting a ribbon back in while testing. Seems it almost needs to be pulled through.
