80's Pendant

Post by acornranch »

So I promised I'd make my wife I'd make her a space invaders pendant a little while back. Mostly so I could keep her happy and calm as little black boxes kept showing up at the house every week or so. It did the trick!! I showed it off at the high school where I teach math and am working pushing for STEAM education. Then, I took it down to her and she wore it for the day at the elementary school where she teaches art. We'll let's just say the little kids loved it!! So far she's just had the stock Space Invaders code. However, tonight I whipped up some Tetris for her and have a Pacman version just about finished.

The version you all know from the learning system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96k2l0DNUxU

I"m torn between 3D printing and enclosure for it or just leaving it raw so the kids can check out the tech. I prepped a little box for it Friday after school but didn't get enough time to print it before I left. Maybe tomorrow I'll print it out just to see if I like the idea. Here's the Tetris version.

That's awesome. Would you be willing to share the code?

I'm more than willing to share the code. I've been learning so much from other people's code if I can contribute in some small way I'd be glad to. I think I got github figured out.

Hopefully, this way I can continue to put up a few more animation files I'm working on for other animations (Pacman, etc). The original Space Invaders code and the wiring, etc can be found on the learning system if you haven't seen it.

That's great thanks. My wife loves Tetris so hopefully when she sees that black box come and sighs she'll smile when it's for her :)

I tried your code and it worked. It is cute. Thanks.

There is a typo on line 543, a period instead of a comma.

BTW, EnsignRed spotted a bug where everything was flipped horizontally (I never noticed it because the Space Invaders sprites are nearly symmetrical). The tutorial has been updated with the new code.

Yes, I was wondering about that. My animations were flipped horizontally. I was going to do some boolean algebra to invert the bit order, but in the meantime I just edited my animation frames so they were mirrors. I'm glad the tutorial was updated.
