LED Belt Kit throwing error when compiling

Post by swharper »

Error:

Binary sketch size: 7506 bytes (of a 28672 byte maximum)
Connecting to programmer: .
Found programmer: Id = "LUFACDC"; type = S
Software Version = 1.0; No Hardware Version given.
Programmer supports auto addr increment.
Programmer supports buffered memory access with buffersize=128 bytes.

Programmer supports the following devices:
Device code: 0x44

It may be worth noting that the LED strip that I received is different from what is shown here:

https://learn.adafruit.com/digital-led- ... -led-strip

Instead it appears I received the same component as mentioned in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=47&t=62381&p=316058&hilit=332#p316058

I cut and stripped those extra wires and soldered the leads to those other stripped wires as best I could.

Any ideas as to what this "error" is telling me?

In case it may be a soldering issue, here are the photos of the soldering. This was the first time I'd soldered wire to wire so they're not the best...

I should also note that occasionally if I hit reset on the breakout a few times a random assortment of lights will light once and stay lit.

The pictures did not come through. Make sure they are less than a meg big, 800x600 works well and jpeg or png files are known to work. If you can't get them here you can upload them to a sharing site like photobucket or flickr and post the link.

I cleaned it up a bit. The individual leads do not appear to be touching at all.

It may also be worth noting that if I turn the connector around (the one that attaches to the 6 header pins I soldered) I get the following error:

Connecting to programmer: .avrdude: butterfly_recv(): programmer is not responding

I cleaned up the soldering - I believe this eliminates poor soldering as an issue? See image below.

Is it possible the bootloader is corrupt? I should note I am using the Arduino IDE dmg as instructed here:https://learn.adafruit.com/digital-led- ... est-sketch which uses an alpha version of the Arduino IDE. Would just installing the ATMega32u4 board driver on a 1.0.6 installation potentially resolve this? Alternatively, would flashing the bootloader be another possible solution?
