Display not working - White screen

Post by akmedia »

Hello, I soldered and attached the Adafruit 2.8" PiTFT - Capacitive Touch to my Ra pi. Followed the easy installation and booted. I only get white screen display. However i when i run the touch test event i'm able to see the touch. Find the attached solder picture and dmesg. Let me know if there is any other way to test and fix this or RMA it?

Those look like cold-solder joints. You'll have to reheat them, Make sure to touch the iron to both the pad and the pin. A good solder joint should be smooth and shiny with a concave section, like this:

The solder should flow completely over the pad and up the pin. You can see the pad on several of your solder joints - that shouldn't be the case.

Thanks Rick. Is there any way to check to see which pins are not connected and needed to be soldered again? Because as i mentioned the touch events are picking up when i run the touch events through ssh. Only the display is not working.

I re soldered all the points. Still no luck. Let me know if there is any way to check if I'm not getting any connection from one of the pins. As i mentioned i'm able to read the touch events through SSH. That means the connections are good.

Soldering looks better but is still looking a little iffy - please try to use a clean iron, make sure its hot enough, heat the pin & the pad, and have each solder point a perfect little hershey's kiss

Thanks. Can you point to which pins require soldering again.? I even looked through magnifying glass to confirm all of them are done correctly. Is there a way to find out in Rapi if any of the pins are not connected correctly?

These are the important pins. The one on the lower right in particular looks iffy.

Can you post a picture of the flex connector on the back of the display?
