capacative touchscreen touch input not working

Post by nnovik »

I've just gotten a Capacitive Touch PiTFT (ID:1983) and a Raspberry Pi model B (ID:998) , along with the PiTFT case. All came together nicely, I'm using the new image for the captouch screen, the pi boots, the screen comes on, it displays X fine, wifi dongle working fine, I can ssh in no problem, but the actual touch isn't working. Running evtest returns no results, and dmseg yields:

Bump? How long should I expect before a response on a supported product?

hiya, are you using a model B version 1 or version 2? you can find out with "cat /proc/cpuinfo"

Um, I posted cat /proc/cpuinfo in my original post. It's a B rev 2 (it was purchased from you guys last week, at the same time as the PiTFT).

right! i was umm, testing you ;)

ok lets try one more thing, can you do a full shutdown, unplug power, wait 1 minute, and reboot? just seeing if its a wierd bootstate issue. if that doesnt fix it, we'll send you another one!

Alas! I've given it several complete reboots, no luck. Also, X is now not starting up at all -- it just hangs on a white screen endlessly. When I press on the screen in this state, it does actually flicker when I touch it. Are you sure this is a hardware issue with the screen, rather than with the pi itself? Not that I mind a free second PiTFT but I don't want you wasting the cost of a replacement screen if that's not the source of the issue. :)

The wifi (usb dongle also purchased from you guys) is also fairly unreliable -- I don't have a usb keyboard or mouse plugged in at all, so the wifi dongle is the only thing using usb power, so I didn't expect it to need a powered hub -- is this also possibly a symptom of something else wrong with the pi itself? Any other diagnostics I can try?

I'm not booting into X, I'm using startx (over ssh rather than the commandline). It worked for a while and now has stopped, which is odd.

Oh, and sorry, yes, the screen itself works and displays the bootup sequence and the login prompt just fine (and when I had a usb keyboard/mouse plugged in I was able to log in and start x and move the mouse around within X fine as well).
