PiTFT (ID:1601) - stmpe-spi spi0.1: unknown chip id: 0x0

I have the PiTFT (1601 version) and I have installed the latest image (http://adafruit-download.s3.amazonaws.c ... 150312.zip); however, the screen will not respond to touch.

Here are the facts:

• Latest image installed
  Cannot add the GPIO on the TFT chipset (AKA GPIO 508)
  X is displayed on start up on the TFT
  Button #23 is operational - (shutdown -h now)
  dmesg shows error that chip is unknown

Here is the error from dmesg:

This makes sense that I was unable to add the GPIO to control the backlight if the module was not loaded.

This thread did not fix my issue. I have re-checked my soldier points and they seem to be in order. Pictures attached.

I think i had tge same problem.
i had an adafruit 1601 2,8" tft touch

the lcd work but the touch don't work

with sudo dmesh i obtain

stmpe-spi spi0.1 unknow chip id: 0x0
stmpe-spi: probe of spi0.1 failed with error -22

in /dev/input there arent the touch screen
