WS2811 Chip Wiring

Post by sixpence668 »

I'm putting together my own LED strip using the WS2811 chips, more powerful Piranha LEDs and the Fadecandy interface. I have everything wired up according to the datasheet, but when I test only the first LED in the series lights up. Attached is the schematic of my wiring. I've triple-checked everything and can't see what the problem is. Thoughts?

No tips at all? Since the datasheet is so limited and you provide no additional info on this product, do you have any suggestions on where people can find instructions on its use?

The manufacturers data sheet is here http://www.world-semi.com/en/Driver/Lig ... ip/WS2811/ and Google has several documents on using them including this one http://www.instructables.com/id/Bitbang ... f-WS2811-/

Thank you for the follow-up. I have actually looked at that Instructable and many other similar articles on the internet. My issue is that all of them are based on the WS2811 already integrated with (usually) the 5050 LEDs. I've used them in this type of package before with great success. In this particular case, my concern is with wiring the chip itself to a separate LED. As stated in my first post, I designed my wiring following the diagram in the datasheet you posted and it is not functioning correctly. Only the first LED in the series lights. I was hoping there may be some additional documentation on the use of the chip itself, not already in the 5050 package.

Just the datasheet. Have you tried putting the data into the second chip to see if that works? It might be a bad chip. Also if you could post some pictures that might help.
