Power Supply!

Post by hsinghal »

Hey guys

We ordered 3 Dotstar LED strips but we received one long LED strip in 3 meters. Not sure why that happened.

We had earlier purchased 2/ 144 Dotter LEDs and 2 Dotstar 60 LEDs and connected them to 2 5V/2A power supply. They came individually in one metre each and it was easy to work the circuit out.

Now that we have one long 3 meter strip how much power would we need? In total we have 3 meter/60 Dotstar + 1 meter/144 Dotstar.

Power requirements depend on how you use the strips. At full bright white, you need 60mA per pixel, which would be 10.8 amps for your 3-meter strip. If you're using colors and/or not running at full brightness, you can get away with less than that.

You should probably use a pair of 10A power supplies. One for the 3-meter x 60 strip, and another for the 1-meter x 144 strip.

Alternately, you can get a 5V 26A supply at Amazon
