Hi Dear,
Would you please tell me how efficient can a stepping motor be? I'm using this one in my research (http://www.pololu.com/product/1472/faqs), but it is not giving me a good results and it seems to be inefficient motor because the power consumption is not increasing proportionally with the torque. I'm trying to find out about the stepping motor efficiency so if you know a good sources about this topic, please refer me to them so I can understand what is happening in my project.
Thanks

Re: Efficiency of Stepping Motor
Stepper motors are not especially efficient. They typically draw as much or more current when not moving as they do at maximum RPM. To maximize torque from a stepper you need to pair it with a current limiting driver which has been tuned to the motor characteristics. This paper has some good information on stepper operation and efficiency: http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~cham/eas5407 ... tepper.pdf
