I have a neo pixel 30 strip https://www.adafruit.com/products/1376
Using a 1000uF cap 35 vdc and a 330 Ohm resistor,
I have enclose a photo. The LED's do not work at all even if I set the code to 8 LEDs. I have tested my Arduino set up wth the 8 neo-pixel stick.
I did check the end of the LED strip and there is 5vdc making to to the end of the strip.

Re: neo_pixel_30_not_working
I don't see any ground connection between the strip and the Arduino.

The lights will flash on once if I remove the power supply connected to the adapter.
Do I need to bridge a ground from the arduino ground to the strip ground?

You do but I think you have the second black wire (ground) connected so that should take care of it. The wire to the Arduino pins should be 22ga but if you are sure there is a good connection you should be OK with what you have for testing. Are you sure you are connecting to the input end of the strip?

Just noticed the connector. It is connected to the output . The neo-pixel is reversed.
I'll have to swap the connector.
Thanks Franklin are you in Oregon

SOLVED. Works epic now. I just surface mount soldered the correct end of the NEO-Pixel and the code worked perfect.
Nice job AdaFruit!
I also got a a bunch of eneloop batteries and I'm running it with batteries on a hat for Halloween.
Grazie!
