We have a roll of Neo-Pixels that we are cutting into strips of 8, controlled with and Arduino.
We are using the 5V Arduijno output to power the 8 Neo-pixels.
It works. But, is it safe?

Maximum 5V @ 60mA draw per 1.3" strip segment (all LEDs on full brightness)

Re: Neo-Pixels controlled with Arduino
That should be safe in most cases. Powering the Arduino by USB or a 7v-9v adapter, you should have no problems at all.
If you are powering the Arduino with a 12v supply and driving the pixels at full intensity for extended periods, you may have some voltage regulator heat issues.
