need help building a temperature data logger

Post by inewton1953 »

I am a H.S. teacher who is interested in having my students build an environmental temperature data logger that can be used to record water temperature and air temperature in a stream. Ideally, I want the students to do some construction of the sensor platform and program the sensor to collect temps every 10-15 minutes for a period of about 1 month. I would like to be able to download the data onto a spreadsheet for analysis. I have some experience building simple circuits, but have little to know experience with adafruit/audrino systems. So, I need help on where to start and what to purchase for this project. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd start with this:
Data Logger Shield
Arduino Uno
DS18B20 temp sensor
And any cables, power supplies and cases you feel you need to make this all come together. This is a starting point and will get your feet wet with the Arduino. You can change the parts as you get more experience in the future.
