adjust volume in Cupcade NES-Emulation

Post by ullysis »

Hi,

I`m a teacher from germany and I got a raspberry pi-class in my school, where we learn to program and build cool stuff. The latest project is a raspberry pi inside a gameboy. The setup is pretty much the same as in the "PIGRRL - Raspberry Pi Gameboy"-Tutorial (https://learn.adafruit.com/pigrrl-raspberry-pi-gameboy).

But I also added a small speaker by using the original Gameboy-speaker and the Adafruit Mono Amplifier (https://www.adafruit.com/products/2130), which I connected to the 5V-GPIO-Pin.

Everything`s working just fine - the buttons, the sound, the display... but I cannot adjust the volume of the NES-Games I installed. The Amplifier has a build-in potentiometer, but when I use it, there`s always a chirping sound, unless I turn it to full volume, which is a bit too loud.

I then tried to change the volume with the amixer- and alsamixer-command. I even added them to the rc.local-File, but it doesn`t affect the fceu-NES-Emulator, which seems to have it`s own volume-control. When I type "speaker-test" in the command line, the sound is just right, but when I start the Emulator, it`s back to full volume.

If you`re intereted in the project, here are a few picture:
