Absolute maximum voltage

Postby seblindberg » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:30 am

Trying to get Wifi going on my Beagle Bone I have arrived at the point when the USB charger I have been using just is not enough anymore. Among the power supplies I have I found one with a 5V, 3A output. Before plugging it in though, just to be careful, I measured it with my oscilloscope over a 25 ohm load. The result was an average voltage of 5.18V with peeks as high as 5.24V. That is also consistent over other loads. My question now is if that is too high for the Beagle Bone? I have read that the maximum input voltage is 5.2V which my supply would exceed, but does it exceed too much? I am dangerously close to just trying it but I really don't want to damage my Beagle.

The reason, by the way, that I did not order the supply carried in the store is that I live in Europe.

5.25 is perfectly fine - we'd suggest avoiding anything over 5.5V
