Issues with Installing Android on BeagleBoneBlack

Post by Zahavi »

Hi,

I am trying to install Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean on Beaglebone black such that it will boot from the onboard eMMC.

After having an SDCard ready with the image required, I tried going through the same process of installation as described for other OS, i.e.:
1. Turning of the board
2. Inserting the SDCard
3. holding down the user button
4. Powering up the board

Due many tutorials I've read, at this point, the four user LEDs are supposed to flash, and then after about 30-45 minutes Android OS should be FLASHED TO THE eMMC memory.

In practice, what happens is that after a few seconds Android is booted from the SDCard and I get into the Android's opening screen. I tried the above process many times but the results do not vary.

Anyone has any ideas how to flash the image on the eMMC memory such that it will boot from the memory and not the SDCard?

Just to check, are you holding the button down until the LEDs start to flash?

Also, where did you get your Android image? IIRC, there's a difference between images for flashing and bootable images for any BBB OS.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I tried two different images:
JB 4.3: http://2net.co.uk/tutorial/android-4.3-beaglebone
JB 4.2: http://elinux.org/Beagleboard:Android

And yes, I hold the button for a very long time but then one of the two happens:
1. either the LEDs remain off and nothing happens
2. LEDs start to blink randomly and Android is booted (in which case I BANNED stop holding the button).

Do you have any suggestions for android images that are meant to be flashed?

Plus, are you familiar with any other way to flash the image? (I've heard som procedure with fastboot can work).

Thanks again for your help

I haven't played with Android on the BBB, but from what I can find in the documentation, most of the images are designed to run from the SD card.

This page has a description of how to get the image onto the eMMC:

You might try over at the Beagbone community forum. There is an android section:
