4X20 Character LCD wiring diagram for BBB?

Post by mrtexasfreedom »

I ordered a 4X20 Character LCD, and while wiring it up, I realized the guide published here is for an 18-pin display board. Mine has 16 pins.

Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram for a 16-pin Character LCD display? Preferably using PWM.

Also, just for additional clarification, will I be able to run this display just using power from my beaglebone connected via USB? Or do I need to plug in an external power supply?

thanks in advance for any guidance!

The 18-pin version has three control lines for the RGB backlight.. one for the red LED, one for the green LED, one for the blue LED.

Your display is probably monochrome, with only a white LED backlight. Connect it as if you were hooking up the 18-pin version's red LED and ignore the other two pins you don't have.
