Beaglebone Rev C Problems

Post by mrmu »

Hi, I just got a BBB Rev C from you through Element 14.

I have faced the following issues:

1) I couldn't SSH in or access the served page from my Mac running Yosemite. I've done searches, and there doesn't seem to be a clear solution to this.

2) After plugging in and out a few times, the mini-B USB port for power/communications popped off.

3) I'm having a lot of difficulty getting setup with this Wifi module: https://www.adafruit.com/products/814

What can we do about this?

For item 1, you need to install a USB-TCP/IP driver located in the folder that shows up as a removable drive.

For the sake of building a case file, could you post a photo of the board with the missing connector please? 800x600 images usually work best.

Right, I installed the drivers they say to in Step 2 here: http://beagleboard.org/getting-started

Here are some ideas on BBB and Yosemite, I've followed them and still not able to connect through SSH or get the page to load.

Also the mini-B connector wasn't missing, it just popped off the board, I can send a picture tomorrow. Though it has solder on it as I attempted to reconnect it. The 5 tiny pins make this almost impossible with the size of my iron.

Thanks,
Greg

Having the connector come off the board counts as a fabrication error. If we can get a photo of that it will make authorizing a replacement easy.

Here is a picture of the detached mini-B USB port. I tried to solder it back on with no luck.
Can you tell me what the difference is between your version and the Element14 version which has their logo on it?

Also, I have been able to get a separate Wifi module working (Edimax) with BBB, but not the one I purchased through you guys. Your tutorial on this is for the older Beaglebone running Angstrom.

I'd like to get a couple more wifi adapters to try out. Could I send the one back I recently bought from you and get a credit to buying more?
Are these proven to work with a BBB? Do you know what type of range they get?

Thanks!

We don't really have a version.

The BBB is made by Circuitco, and we sell that. Circuitco has given Element14 permission to make an authorized clone of the BBB, and we also sell that. They're both built on the same design and should be 100% compatible, but they come from different supply chains.

If you bought it in the last 30 days you can send it back, but you'll have to pay the shipping. Depending on which one you bought, that may end up costing more than you'd get in store credit.

Yes.

No. It depends too much on the operating environment. The most specific we can get is "standard wifi range".

Ok, so can you issue a replacement for the Beaglebone with my next order?
Preferably it will be one from your (Circuitco's) supply chain.

Send a note to [email protected] with a link to this thread and the folks there will get you a replacement BBB.

We don't have any of the CircuitCo version in stock right now, so you'll have to work out the details with the support team.
