I have built a minty... AND IT WORKS!!! MUAHAHAHA!

Post by xoxota »

So I finally (with LAdyAda's help) fixed up my non-functioning Minty, and I'm rockin' out to some phat tunes on it RIGHT NOW!

So... am I the only non-LadyAda person to finish one of these? Has anyone else managed to complete the project? What do I win?

w00t! wikkid tunez, here I come! Now to mess around with the firmware...

Yep. Popped it into a card reader and VOILA! (that's French for violin). Of course it's 32MB, so I canonly fit about 5 songs on, but as a proof of concept, it's groovy. Plus, I have enough spare parts, and an extra PCB, to make a second minty (just in case). I also have a yampp, so I was able to compare sound, and (to my untrained ear) the STA+DAC combo sounds just as good as the VS1001.

...How many free IO lines are there left on the PIC (if I want to add buttons, or an LCD)? Not sure I'm reading the schematic correctly...

thanks for all your help!

Just out of curiosity, which DAC did you use?

The CS4340A, from Cirrus. Got it from Newark (bastards). Beware the S&H.

They really stiff you. Particularly with the low-order handling fee. Thank god I don't have to order anything else from them. But yes, service is fast.

Quick question, what did you use to program the 18F452?

Well, I kind of cheated. I have an ICSP programmer from a previous project. You can buy one assembled here. Scroll down the page to the first item under 'PIC Programmers'. Comes with a ZIF socket, and basically exactly matches the images from LadyAda's site.

Heheh. Yeah, drilling the case is probably the most annoying/challenging part of the whole project. I'll probably go through a couple of tins before I get it right :-)
