Another thought,
Is your router handing out DHCP IP addresses?
Do you have a large enough DHCP range defined?
Maybe you have just used up all the available IP's in the DHCP range.

Success! I did set the Pi up with its own keyboard/monitor/mouse. The same problem existed. I decided I better recheck the fundamentals. The password was off by one character for the network. Must be blurry eyes or old age I corrected the password and it works for both Occidentalis and Wheezy. Since I could scan and find networks though couldn't get an IP address earlier, I believed the hardware was basically working. As usual, pilot error. I know Adafruit sells quality products so I wasn't ready to return the product. I'm just happy to have it working.

Does the Adafruit miniUSB Wifi / Ourlinc work without a powered HUB? Assuming power supply is the one suggested on the Adafruit raspi page.
