Console Cable and Ubuntu

I'm a beginner trying to get through the first few tutorials for the Raspberry Pi. For this tutorial, ... sole-cable, you need a program that only works on Windows or Mac. Is there anything comparable for Ubuntu? If so, could you point me toward resources that would help me get started with it similar to the excellent tutorials on Adafruit?

try minicom or screen. the command line for minicom would be...

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
minicom -D/dev/ttyUSB0 -b11520
