Power Boost 500 Basic is not Working/

Post by ThePotatoLord »

I have been working on the PiGRRL project for a school course (https://learn.adafruit.com/pigrrl-raspberry-pi-gameboy). After hooking up the required parts, (except for the SNES controller circuits) I noticed that the LED light on the Power Boost 500 Basic was not working, so I could not tell if power was flowing through my Raspberry Pi. I tested all of my components (using a multimeter to see if electricity was flowing through it) , and saw that after hooking up the Power Boost 500 Basic, the multimeter no longer picked up a current. I have tried everything, and my teacher suggesting posting this on the forum to see if I could get a replacement part. Feedback is appreciated.

Post a photo of your hardware and connections and we'll see what we can find.

Here's a picture. Just so you know, the circuits have been soldered and unsoldered a few times while I was testing it.

Let's start with the basics: what voltage do you get between the PCB connections on the PowerBoost's JST connector?

When I tested the battery without the power boost, it said it produced 3.7v. When I attached the power boost, it said it produced 0v, and the ED light would only turn on when it was plugged into a charger. Sorry I am taking so long to reply. My teacher said I may need a replacement, but suggested I post on the forum just to be safe.

That sounds like a problem we know.. what resistance do you get between the PowerBoost's JST connectors when the battery is disconnected?

When I tested the JST connectors, I got 1.6 M omega. The switch is still attached, but I don't think that should make much of a difference.

I have a similar problem. Im not sure if this is the Power Boost 500 Basic or the Micro Lipo w/MicroUSB. I checked every output and there was zero voltage there is no voltage going the the Power Boost 500 Basic. I purchase all the parts for the Pigrrl on 4/20/2015 order number 766602-6230919580.

Check the resistance with the battery disconnected and no power to the board.

Also i was trying to do research on the problem and everyones powerboost seems to light up when battery/ lipo connect to it but mine doesnt it doesnt a very quick flash during plugging in but no more what could be my problem? Is it the powerboost?

In the video, the JST connector isn't fully seated in the jack. You may be getting intermittent supply power.
