Hey,
I bought the 2.8'' Capacitive Touchscreen last week. First it didn't work with the old image (white screen).
With the new image it worked fine, but after a view days the touchscreen didn't work any more while the screen still works normaly.
I tried the reinstallation but still it doesn't work.
When I shut down the Pi the display still shows the desktop some times.
Can unplugging harm the touchscreen?
Best regards
Hermann

If you plug it in or disconnect a PiTFT while the RasPi has power, any number of things can happen to it. Damage isn't guaranteed, but we can't rule it out either.
Let's check things that can be fixed first though: post a photo of the underside of the PCB showing the flex cable in its connector.

Actually I was making sure the flex cable was seated properly. A lot of PiTFT problems lead back to the cable connection.
It looks like yours is seated properly though, so I doubt that's the problem.
This is one of those grey-area cases where we probably won't be able to isolate a specific cause of failure, and there are clues pointing to early component failure and to operating conditions.
I can authorize a one-time replacement on the chance that it was the hardware's fault, but support for the replacement will be limited. If the new one fails in the same way, we'll assume the hardware was good.
Send a note to [email protected] with a link to this thread and the folks there will get you a new PiTFT.
