Tried again; same results. I'm going to try installing the image on a new card and see what happens. I have to take my 92 year old mother out, so it'll be awhile. Thanks!

Please excuse the late reply. After several more attempts with the easy install I went back to trying the DYI install and this is what I noticed. When I "Copy Code" and paste into LXTerminal, the program starts to load and then does strange things. It seemed to download the "| sudo bash" okay and started loading the bootloader, I think, and asked if I wanted to continue. I replied with a"y" and the download aborted and started loading the "helper." I enter the code for the "- 35r" and that seems to load. Rebooted the pi and things start to load and nothing happens on the 3.5 PiTFT. I started over and manually entered the codes and everything worked as advertised. So: On a mac I used SDFormator on mySDcard, downloaded NOOBS, booted the program in English(US), updated, upgrade, enter GUI, established wifi connection, manually enter DIY code, reboot, success.
One last thing, please, when it says,"You can also have an HDMI display seperately" does it mean I can have both displays running at the same time or I can use one or the other displays separately?
Thank you for the assistance!

Glad to hear you got it running.

You can have PiTFT and HDMI displays running simultaneously, but you can only run X on one of them at a time.

That happened to me when I copied these three lines of code; together, from the high lighted box under DIY Installer script,

curl -SLs https://apt.adafruit.com/add | sudo bash CopyCode
sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-bootloader
sudo apt-get install adafruit-pitft-helper

pasted into LXTerminal, ran the program and got the abort message.

I then rebooted the Pi and entered the code manually, one line at a time and everything loaded properly and the 3.5 was up and running.

I did like you said and it's work.
But after reboot I still have only hdmi signal.
I disconnect the hdmi cable and reboot, but the PiTFT got no signal just light up white
Thanks again and sorry for my not good English.

Glad to be of service, alvarop1.
If you did not do this, enter: sudo adafruit-pitft-helper -t 35r
