It behaves exactly the same way with the Leonardo as with the Flora?

Yes . On PC the sensor works with both boards ... With Mac it works with none of them.
Again.. This issue is happening only with this specific sensor. All other sensor and breakouts I have work great on my Mac.

I have no answer. We can try replacing the sensor. I can't think of anything else.

i don't see a reason to replace it (already replaced the sensor once) and it works well on pc
could there be some technical issue as to how Mac handles his serial connection that might prevent it from working correctly with the sensor?

We can't think of any reason why it should affect a Mac differently. In fact, we can't think of any reason why the USB communication coming out of the Flora should be any different due to the sensor.

The only thing I can think of is that there is a short-circuit someplace. It's pulling enough current that the Mac shuts down the USB port, but Windows doesn't.
