Flora and Servos

Post by edwardiglesias »

Hello,
I am thinking of using a flora to power a top hat gizmo that would have lights but also turn a clockwork mechanism using a servo. Do you have any suggestions as to

a) what type of servo to use
and

b) would I need another battery

Currently using the mini lipo 150mAh 3.7v

Thanks

The servo to use depends on the mechanism you need to move. For many projects a micro servo is sufficient. If it requires a lot of torque, then a larger servo is called for.

Servos are pretty power hungry. You will probably want to move to a larger battery. Servo power requirements vary by servo size. May of the Micros will run on the 3.7v from a LiPo. Larger ones will be happier with 5-6v.

Thanks! The gears I'm thinking of using are pretty small, they fit on the side of a hat, but I will probably move up to the bigger battery to be safe.
