How to make Adafruit LIPO charger 1A?

Post by joshhaftel »

I got the MCP73833 LIPO/Li-Ion charger which stated was normally a 500mA charger but could be made into either a 100mA or 1A charger by soldering a pin. I looked at the board, both back and front, as well as the datasheet provided online. I couldn't figure out how to set this charger appropriately. I'm not an electrical engineer, so maybe it's there but not obvious to a lay person...any help please? :)

500mA charge current, adjustable from 100mA to 1000mA by soldering in a resistor
Take a look at the picture of the back https://www.adafruit.com/products/259 The TOTAL resistance is what selects the charge rate so you may need to remove the SMD part before you add the new resistor. A 2K resistor in parallel with the existing 2K should give you a total of 1K.
