OFF TOPIC - need help with gate to VCA.

Post by isak »

Hi guys.

Im in a prosses of building a synth, now I'm in the vca section, a put a toggle switch that can be choose between ENV and Gate.
They both work well the only problem I have is the clicks on the beginning of a note when pressing the keyboards, I got this scheme that helped me with this clicks.

Now when pressing the keyboard I don't hear the click at the beggining of the note, it's in the end of the note when releasing my finger from the keyboard.
How can I fix this?

Any help on this matter will be greatful.

Cheers,
Isak.

if you use the GATE - it's expected to hear clicks, since the gate rises and falls "sharp"
if you don't want the clicks - use the ENV

if you put LPFs on the Gate to prevent the clicks - then that's still basically cheating, it would be equivalent to using an Attack/Release ENV

as for why the cap fixed the attack click but didn't fix the release click - probably on release the resistance is different, or in other words - the cap has a way to discharge faster, maybe there is something like a diode around there
can't help you much on that aspect

Thank for your support.

I think of some sort of limiter slew for this matter, what do you say?
Like this...

the slew will attack and release?

I wa wander how Roland did it in the sh101, the gate works great for the vca.

EDIT:
Antto, why your not posting your amazing "Venom" project?
Definitely the best I've heard till now ;)

this looks like a LPF with adjustable freq, stuck between two buffers
so yeah, i think this has a better chance to work, since it's isolated by the two opamps

vb303 is not a secret, nor a miracle.. i think the people who would be interested in it already know about it
