Hi
does anyone experienced similar problems:
after assembling x0xbox (Sokkos 2.0) everything works fine
however I have two noise problems
when using USB and DinSync
1. when I connect USB from x0xb0x to computer then big noise/hum comes
and it stays as long as USB cable is connected regardless of function knob position
The USB chip FT232 was pre-soldered by Willzyx so it should be ok,
(USB cable has Ferrite Balun)
this noise often slightly changes in volume/tune
2. when DinSync cable connected (x0xb0x - Yocto) under "Pattern Din Sync"
and under "Track Din Sync" then all OK
but when turning function knob to any other position
again big noise/hum comes until DinSync cable is disconnected
or going back to "Pattern/Track Din Sync"
This hum/noise sounds (tunes) differently to usb noise
I don't think both noises are 50Hz hums from power supply
They are sort of distorted hum/noise in low tune
any clue?
below some additional questions but they are not such important,
mainly above noise problems irritating me a lot
because in both situations I have to disconnect cables physically to get rid of noise....
once connected under c0ntr0l I can
load/edit/change_tempo/lenght/shift (regardless of function knob position - is it correct?)
save to x0xb0x (only in "computer controll" - I think thats correct)
but
I can NOT Play Pattern (inactive) from under c0ntr0l (regardless of function knob position)
Din Sync and USB create noise

Re: Din Sync and USB create noise
2: the DinSync port is either input or output on the same pins, the firmware controls whether it's input or output
if your Yocto is currently set to output (thus generating clock) and your x0xb0x is also set to output - it's normal to get weird results (i also get audible noise in this kind of situation)
in short, one of the two machines should be master (generating clock) while the other should be slaved
about c0ntr0l: this app hasn't been developed any further and many of the functions it was supposed to have haven't been implemented at all
editing patterns works, changing tempo works, updating the firmware works, extracting the whole eeprom should work too (altho i had problems with it)
there is an alternative app (BANNED) which can do most of what c0ntr0l does, plus some more
http://antonsavov.net/cms/projects/BANNED/dev.html <- check the table with the serial messages, those with "Y" under "USED" have been implemented in c0ntr0l, the others which are grayed-out were supposed to be implemented into c0ntr0l (and the firmware, respectively) but they never did

Re: Din Sync and USB create noise
antto thanks for replay
I actually just figured out that via dinsync you can slave x0xb0x under yocto being master
and vice versa and in real time turn both to edit mode - they stay synchronised
while you can edit them
and as you said - as long as dinsync out is not send from both in the same time all is ok, no noise
I still don't know why Im getting noise from usb but it can be some crosstalk from my other rack stuff or computer itself?
it explains a lotantto wrote:2: the DinSync port is either input or output on the same pins, the firmware controls whether it's input or output

Re: Din Sync and USB create noise
USB noise can be the result of some sort of digital ground loop; I've seen this several times with USB devices (even audio interfaces). Sometimes the only solution is to use an audio transformer or a DI box.

thats what I worry aboutMMM wrote:I've seen this several times with USB devices (even audio interfaces)
my audio interface is alesis mixer via USB to computer
also I use USB to MIDI_din adaptor,
rack modules + yocto via MIDI_din
yocto + x0xb0x via Din_Sync
all above can make what you call
sort of digital ground loop
