Verified the driver mentioned in previous post works see below! Three years later and this is still a problem with prolific USB and Windows 7.

I am seeing FT232R in device manager using windows 7 ultimate and it has a bang ! showing the driver was not installed correctly. It was working initially and I unplugged it when I moved the laptop and it never found it again;.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver?
