PIR Sensor to light a LED (Wireless)

Postby iceboi714 » Fri Apr 27, 2012 3:25 pm

Hi,

Before finalizing my order of (NFC parts), It came across my mind to do something with the PIR (Motion) sensor. Basically The idea is to have sensor inside or outside the house and have it signal a LED to light up in my room...but done wireless. I am assuming this can be done with the sensor and ardunio, but I still need some help with the wireless portion of it (component-wise). I I am wrong, can someone point me into the right direction with the right components.

Thanks

For simple switching, you could do it with just the PIR & a pair of XBees & XBee adapters. Maybe a transistor too if you are talking about a high-power LED.

That sounds good. I was looking at the XBee but wasn't sure. I am just planning to use a regular LED so there won't be a need for a transistor. Thanks. I'll make my order and keep you posted if anything else comes up or its finished....Thanks!

Actually, looking at the output pin specs on the XBee, they are only rated to source or sink 2mA. That's enough to light a led - but not very brightly. A transistor is probably a good idea.

I haven't had a chance to look yet...But which transistors would you recommend?
