What does AVR and SMD stand for?

Keep seeing AVR and SMD but what do they stand for?

SMD stands for Surface Mount Device. As to AVR there are different interperations and everybody has thier own idea. I've not heard one definitive answer. It's a chip family made by Atmel

I remember seeing a video put out by Atmel that featured the creators of the AVR line that asked this. They didn't really answer the question
