Is that shaded area on the right side of the board (above the USB jack) completely unusable? In this picture, it looks like there's room to solder some through-hole components above that jack:

I see that Adafruit's Eagle template for the BeagleBone cape has some red-shaded areas on it, presumably for space conflicts:

think of them as a hint! some parts may not want to be above the metal jacks
