Question on TFT and Ethernet shield

Postby eagleeye » Thu May 17, 2012 9:31 am

Hi
I would like to use the
2.8" TFT Touch Shield for Arduino - 2.8"
http://www.adafruit.com/products/376

With a sparkfun http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9028
current sensor breakout board

And optionally Ethernet.

Q1) Are there any 'spare pins' on the TFT shield after the screen is being used so that
i can use the current sensor.

Q2) I am making a wild guess that the Ethernet shield will not be able to work after
the TFT shield is installed?

I am trying to measure DC current, display it on the TFT screen and make the
value available on the internet... will the above products be able to function happily
together without pin conflicts?

Thanks in advance.

The touch shield uses a lot of pins. Only digital 2,3 and analog 4,5 are free. That should be enough to interface your sensor breakout, but not an Ethernet shield.

With the two remaining digital pins, you can communicate via serial. You could use a serial/Ethernet converter such as the ones sold by Digi. Or you could make your own from a second Arduino and an Ethernet shield.

If you don't need the graphics, the RGBLCD Shield only uses 2 pins and would be compatible with the Ethernet shield.
