BMP085 waterproof housing?
Does anyone know if there is a waterproof housing or material, besides gore-tex, available to use with the BMP085 that will not ruin its accuracy?

Does it need to be submersible? Or just rain/weather-proof?

Preferably submersible... If you know an answer for either though it would be greatly appreciated. It won't be submersed for long periods of time nor any deeper than about 5-10 feet.

How durable does this need to be? Would something as simple as a rubber balloon or a plastic sandwich bag be sufficient?

Re: BMP085 waterproof housing?
For a weather-proof housing, an Otter-box or one of our waterproof housings with a tiny hole drilled in the bottom will work. The hole can be made with the smallest drill-bit you can find. It just needs to be big enough to allow the pressure to equalize.
For submersible (to a limited depth) you might experiment with waterproof containers made from flexible plastic (e.g. tupperware). These will deform to equalize the pressure. But you will need to verify that they remain watertight to the maximum depth you anticipate.

Hi Caustic,
It is not clear what you are trying to do.
So, I will just point out a couple of obvoius issues:
1 if you hermetically seal the BMP085 then it will
not indicate the humidity outside the container.
2 if you do not hermetically seal the BMP085 then
you can potentially expose it to 'condensing' moisture.
This liquid water will promote corrosion and saturates
the sensor.
3 the level of humidity under-water is always100%
regardless of depth.
I am confused by your questions (but that is not very difficult).
Can you share a little more about what you are trying to do?
Regardless, good luck with your project.

Re: BMP085 waterproof housing?
I want the device to be worn on a person's wrist while they are swimming. I'm willing to manufacture a housing, but I need to know what material I can use that will keep it safe from water but will not affect accuracy. Basically like wearing it as though it were a watch. This being said, a plastic bag, balloon, or otterbox will not be efficient. I'm sorry I was not very clear previously. Thank you very much for your suggestions though. Currently I've been using this http://www.h2oaudio.com/store/waterproo ... uffle.html. However, the readings are incredibly inaccurate even when sitting still. So I was looking for some alternative, maybe made from a different material, that will not ruin the readings if its possible.

Re: BMP085 waterproof housing?
Caustic,
Thanks for the explanation. I understand much better.
Disclaimer: I have no first-hand experience so this is all speculation.
However, here are some thoughts. Experiment with them at your own risk.
A small enclosure with a small hole covered by a hydrophobic material may
get you close to what you want/need. It should protect the sensor from
incidental water contact. But, being hydrophobic is not "water-proof".
Adafruit carried a 'water level-sensor' for a while which had such a
cover over the vent-hole. Still, they did not recommend submerging it.
I would be concerned that pressure delta and temperature delta would
encourage or force liquid water into the sensor enclosure.
Further, while swimming with the sensor, I would expect it to approach
saturation (100%). It could take a considerable amount of time for it
to respond to "normal" humidity levels. This issue is made worse by
the small hole I advocated in the paragraph above.
Sorry for the negativity.
Possibly, someone else has some positive recommendations.

Re: BMP085 waterproof housing?
Hi everyone,
Any ideas on how to seal the BMP085 with a similar gasket to the SCP1000 one?
http://www.lamshine.com/pressure/gasket.pdf
or
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8925
Does anything like this exist for the BMP085 or the new BMP180? Can something be easily diy-made?
Since the device will mainly be used on water surface I only need to make this 1m waterproof (it may get submerged at times though, hence 1m waterproof assumption). Can't have a buffer box with a hole like bill suggested due to size restrictions.

Re: BMP085 waterproof housing?
How about putting it inside a baloon (uninflated)
