I seem to be having trouble using GP2Y0A02YK purchased at http://www.adafruit.com/products/1031. The product description lists the range capability as 20cm-150cm and is verified in the datasheet at http://sharp-world.com/products/device/ ... 0a02_e.pdf.
However, I'm only able to get readings at up to 80cm even using a white sheet for added reflectivity. Am I really only capable of reaching half the advertised range or is this product mislabled and being mistaken for GP2Y0A02YK0F http://sharp-world.com/products/device/ ... 02yk_e.pdf, which is legitimately 80cm max?
Does anyone have any experience with this product?

Re: Sharp Infrared Range Sensor
There should be a part-number marking on the sensor itself. What does that say?

The interior controller is marked GP2D12 and the outer housing is marked as 2Y0A02 F 31.

That sounds like the markings for the GP2Y0D02YK0F. Let me check what is currently in inventory...

We built an autonomous RC vehicle using 4 of the Sharp IR sensors and they work great! Thanks Adafruit for such great customer support and quick delivery. Here is the result.
