Installing a Dimmer Switch on the Wall

Post by dankie44 »

So I bought this new LED light Fixture, but its too bright, so i decided to install a Dimmer switch. For some reason I cannot wire it correctly for the life of me, the closest I have gotten it to work is that the LED turns on but the light starts flickering when turned on.

Here i have attached some photos, wondering if anyone can shed some light on this issue.. So some back story, i had another dimmer switch that was attached, but it seems it was not an approved dimmer switch from the manufacture, so the transformers on the LED light made a huge humming/buzzing sound. I tried to wire it the same way but it seems there is an extra YELLOW WIRE, no clue where it goes. Also the green is ground wire.

Some LED lights don't work with dimmers. Does yours say "Dimmable" on it?

The red wire out of the dimmer goes to the "Live" wire out of the box and to the outlet wire in the box.
The yellow wire out of the dimmer goes to the the wire in the box feeding the lamp (LED).
The white wire out of the dimmer gets connected to all the white stuff in the box.
The green wire out of the dimmer gets screwed to somewhere on the metal box.
(If the plate is bolted securely to the box, don't worry about the green.)
The red/white wire out of the dimmer gets an insulating wirenut or tape on it.
(You can cut off the stripped part of the red/white wire.)

Do you still have the box the dimmer came in? Most fixtures have hookup instructions printed on the inner surface of the box. It keeps the information with the device, and saves the cost of printing and stuffing an instruction sheet.
