Hey everyone, So I have been reading through this website for quite a few days trying to wrap my head around whether or not a project I have in mind will actually work. I will try to be as in depth as possible.
To start off with; the end goal I am trying to achieve is a wirelessly triggered, 4 meter long LED strip, that will be able to play a set "LED show" synced to music and must be battery powered and as small as possible. The system only needs to be able to run 6-8 minutes on battery power. Essentially everything but the PC broadcasting the "go/stop" signal must be battery powered as it will all be in the air not too far from the laptop. I hope that makes sense:s
Here is where I am getting lost. I was looking at pre-made wireless LED kits but none of them have any patterns that will work for my project. They are all rainbow chases and really tacky. I am looking for something along the lines of the strips in this video

Now after all my research I am guessing the Arduino system with the Fadecandy controller is what I want. But again, I am not sure whether these units can be triggered wirelessly in sync with music. Will the program for when the LED's turn on and off and what color etc, be stored on the arduino or will that be something sent wirelessly? The system we use in our show (see below) have wireless receivers and microprocessors with micro SD cards with the "commands" stored on the card all built into the suit. The suits get the "go" from the DMX controller and the suits run the program from start to finish. Is that something the Arduino is capable of? For power, I am looking at the battery solutions from http://inspiredenergy.com/. They have a range of high quality batteries that are very small and portable but powerful.
A little background:
I am a dancer in the Michael Jackson Immortal world tour and in our show we have LED suits that are completely wireless and synced with music but the system is WAY more complex than my needs. See the suits in action here:

Also Cirque du Soleil hired a team of specialists to create a custom system. DMX to API etc. anyways I have our "LED tech" who is helping me on this project but he specializes in cirques custom system and not coding on arduinos etc. So I do have someone with a lot of LED and electronics experience, but I am a n00b for all intensive purposes:)
I hope that helps and you guys can steer me in the right direction.
Sincerely grateful

I'm guessing this is unachievable by the lack of responses.
Thanks anyways

Probably not unachievable just a bit broad and undefined. You have a good idea it just might not be what others are interested in developing. I see a problem with the syncing to music without a computer that already has the light playlist coded in and then just sends commands to the lights. Don't abandon the idea, just work on the design and implementation a bit more.I'm guessing this is unachievable by the lack of responses.
Thanks anyways

Thanks for the reply Franklin, I just placed an order for a 4m Neopixel LED strip, and arduino starter kit. I wanna play with the lighting and coding, hardwired right now to get it all going then eventually work on making it wireless. I'll keep posting as I progress and hopfully members can help if I hit a roadblock.
Thanks
