Mounting hardware for components

Post by PilotC150 »

I've got a couple different projects that I've been working on that are using various different components. Raspberry Pis, Arduinos, proto-boards, relays and other things with mounting holes. I'd like to build some plates out of plexiglas to mount them on. Making the plexi plates won't be a problem, I just don't know what hardware to use to do that.

Where can I find the necessary screws, washers, nuts and spacers to mount them? And what size would they need to be? I know there are a couple different sizes for different things, so how would I figure out what I need?

McMaster-Carr is a good source for all things mechanical: http://www.mcmaster.com/

WRT sizes, most of our breakouts are designed for M2 screws, though M1.6 will also work.

If you aren't sure about a hole size, find the largest drill bit whose shank will fit through it, then find the closest screw size in the "Clearance Drill - Standard Fit" column in charts like this:
